With everybody going back to school, we know it’s prime time for school sports. We’d like to remind everyone about the importance of protecting your teeth when you play sports of all types. Many people think that mouthguards are only for major contact sports like football, but the reality is that your teeth need protection in all sports! Not only do mouthguards protect your smile, but studies have shown that they also can cushion the shock from a bump to the head.

Wearing braces? Never fear, there are mouthguards made specifically for braces that allow your teeth to move, won’t damage your brackets and wires, and still do the job! Sports related dental injuries can be very expensive to treat, so save yourself and wear a mouthguard. Sports injuries can happen in the blink of an eye and the repercussions can be lasting damage to the teeth, lips and cheeks. It may take a little time to get used to wearing a mouthguard, but you’ll be glad you did. Stop by any of our offices in Palmdale, Lancaster, Valencia, Tehachapi, Agoura Hills and Santa Clarita and ask about a mouthguard for your braces.

Say cheese! Ever wonder why we’re told to smile in photos? It’s a fact that we look more attractive when we’re smiling. According to a study done by the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, 95% of American adults think that an attractive smile makes one more appealing. Studies published in “Psychology Today” had a panel look at full length photos of people smiling and with a neutral expression. Consistently, the person in the smiling photos was thought to be more attractive, confident, conscientious and more stable than the person without the smile. So doesn’t it make sense, if you’re in the job market, to enter with a great smile? And since smiling reduces stress, that’s another added benefit that shows right on your face!

If you want doors to open for you, one of the best things you can is enter with a smile on your face. Orthodontics can help you do just that; whether it’s with Invisalign or braces, getting those teeth lined up can have a huge impact. And don’t forget to make ’em white. A bright white smile will really make them notice you.
Keep smiling!

Did you know that by age seven, your child’s mouth has grown enough and has enough sound structure to know how it will develop as the permanent teeth start to emerge? That’s why the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7.

The Orthodontists at Snow Orthodontics perform many orthodontic evaluations on young children, and our staff is trained to detect any problems, such as crowding, deep bites, and open bites. Although orthodontic treatment will not usually start until years later, the orthodontic evaluation is instrumental in determining whether your child has any problems with the jaw and teeth early when they are still easy to treat. This can prevent the need to extract permanent teeth later, as well as prevent other growth related problems. Earlier treatment can also cost less to correct a potential problem than delayed treatment.

The benefits of an Orthodontic evaluation or consultation by an Orthodontist include:
• A better prognosis for how the permanent teeth will develop
• The ability to correct any habits that may be the cause of development problems, such as thumb sucking or tongue pushing
• Correcting bite problems like an open bite, cross bite or deep bite
• Lowering the risk of damage to any protruding teeth
• Creating a more pleasing and functional arrangement of teeth, lips and face
• Alleviating future, and possibly more invasive, dental correction

Snow Orthodontics provides a no cost initial evaluation. It’s easy to schedule by calling one of our convenient offices.

The other day we finished orthodontic treatment for a “young lady” who has celebrated her birthday more than 70 times and it was a tremendous celebration. There were tears in her eyes when she talked about how the changes in her smile made her feel. It made me think about the many people who feel they’re too old for orthodontic treatment, or that they don’t deserve the benefits of a great smile in the second half of their life.

Are you one of them? Maybe you didn’t have braces when you were a child or teenager, and have for years been self-conscious about your smile. Or maybe, as you’ve gotten older, your teeth have shifted and your bite is now uncomfortable or unattractive. Did you have braces as a teen and neglect wearing your retainer causing your teeth to take a trip down memory lane to their former state? Whatever the reason for your less-than-perfect smile and bite, it’s never too late to have the smile you want. The physical, psychological and health benefits are worth it!

The advances in technology in recent years have given us a number of great options for orthodontic treatment for adults. Not only do we have a treatment type that will suit your look and lifestyle, but we’re now able to provide treatment that is faster and more comfortable than ever before.

Invisalign is one of the options that’s great for adults who want an aesthetic and comfortable orthodontic solution. Dr. Snow has been designated by Align Technology, the makers of Invisalign, as a Top 1% Elite Preferred Provider. That designation means that you can have Invisalign treatment from an orthodontic team with lots of Invisalign experience. Our experience can make your experience better.

Give us a call to schedule your complimentary initial exam. And enjoy the benefits of a beautiful healthy smile for life.

Looking for something to do this summer? Check out the exhibit at MOAH in Lancaster where they are celebrating the anniversary of the film “Endless Summer” with multiple exhibitions dedicated to summer!

“Selections from a Wave Warrior” is an exhibit dedicated to surfing legend and artist Herbie Fletcher. This very cool exhibit features large sculptural collages of surfboards that were collected at surfing competitions. Broken and recycled (have you ever broken a surfboard? Ouch…), these collages are a fun way to experience the variety of designs that have ridden the waves.

There are lots of vintage surfboards to see, so you can take in the evolution of the surfboard as the technology developed. There’s also some historic photography and films where you can experience the culture of the surfing community from years ago up until present. Check out all the exhibit rooms. There’s much to highlight the best of summer, the power of the ocean and the determination of those who seek to master the power of the waves.

Take a break from the outdoors and enjoy this tribute to summer at the Museum of History and Art at 665 West Lancaster BLVD (Corner of Ehrlich Ave. and Lancaster BLVD). It’s only 5 minutes from our Lancaster office.

The exhibits are free and the air is cool. Oh, and don’t miss the vintage pinball machine exhibit!
