When you are in treatment, braces require that you skip certain foods because they can damage your appliance. This isn’t fun, but it is necessary for getting the best possible results. So, what foods should you avoid while in treatment?

Foods to avoid with braces:
  • Chewy foods — bagels, gummy candies
  • Crunchy foods — hard pretzels, chips, ice
  • Sticky foods — Skittles, bubble gum
  • Hard foods — nuts, hard candies
  • Foods that require biting into — corn on the cob, apples, carrots
Foods you CAN eat with braces:
  • Dairy — soft cheese, pudding, milk-based drinks
  • Breads — soft tortillas, waffles, muffins without nuts
  • Grains — pasta, rice
  • Meats/poultry — chicken, meatloaf, lunch meats
  • Seafood — tuna, salmon, crab cakes
  • Vegetables —mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, beans
  • Fruits — applesauce, bananas, fruit juice
  • Treats — ice cream without nuts, milkshakes, Jell-O, soft cake
